Get More Twitter Followers with These 5 Tips

Get More Twitter Followers with These 5 Tips

If you’re trying to get more Twitter followers, you’re not alone. Amassing a sizable following is no small task…no matter what those gimmicky “pay $100 for 1K followers” say. To be a true influencer in the Twittersphere, you need dedication, time and a strategy. Here are five tips to help you get more Twitter followers.

5 Tips to Get More Twitter Followers

  1. Tweet Often
If your Klout score is between 40 and 70 (which is probably is), your Tweet’s lifespan is five minutes. When you’re working with that kind of attention span, it’s important you tweet more than once per day. If you do, you increase your chances for retweets, replies and favorites, which equate to exposure.
  2. Tweet Relevant Content
As much as you think your cat is the funniest creature on Earth, avoid tweeting photos of him. It’s OK to show personality once in a while, but when you’re trying to attract a following that takes you and your game seriously, treat them the same by sharing relevant content. Updates regarding your game, links to interesting articles, etc. all count as “relevant” content.
  3. Engage in Discussion
Every time you comment at someone on Twitter, it starts with his or her handle (i.e., @IndieGameGirl can’t wait to use these tips). When someone replies back, they start with your handle. The more people who join the discussion, the more people marketing your name across the Twittersphere.
  4. Follow Others
One of the best ways to get more Twitter followers is by following others. Unless you follow some bigwig, most people follow back. Just be sure you follow the right kind of people, i.e., those in your game’s target audience.
  5. Use Automation
Life gets busy…and when it does, tweeting may not be top of mind. Just remember, when you’re not paying attention to your followers, why would they pay attention to you? This is why automated services exist. Use one of these services to schedule your Tweets in the morning so you’re not neglecting your following when life gets busy later on.

I sure do--Hootsuite. It's free for integration with up to 5 social profiles and works great. The only thing it doesn't do is optimize for time of day. For that you might want to check out Social Vibe.

Great question...and funny you should ask because my next post will be on this topic: how to never run out of blog post ideas. While this post will be using a blog as the example, the same techniques I present can be applied to Twitter, or any other social media channel (although I may not give tips on how to make your dog funnier-ha!). Stay tuned...
