Show Your Support for Ethical Game Marketing [FREE BADGE]
Last week I blogged on a topic I’m incredibly passionate about: unethical marketing on the App Store and how we as indies and indie supporters must do our part to stop it. In my post I reference five ways all indies/indie supporters can help bring awareness to unethical marketing, identify agencies that employee unethical tactics and support those that don’t. However, I realize that some of these methods are time consuming, which is why I’ve created the “Indie Developer for Ethical Marketing Badge.”
The Indie Developer for Ethical Marketing Badge provides an easy and free way to communicate to your site visitors that you support ethical marketing, while doing your part to generate awareness on the topic. When visitors click on the badge, they will go to an Indie Game Girl page that provides more information on the subject, instructions on how to get the badge and a list of other indies who support the cause.
If you’re interested in putting the badge on your site and supporting the cause, click here.

about 11 years agoThere's unethical marketing, but also unethical design that's a pity nowadays : some games do not hesitate to use psychological levels to push consumers to... well, consume ! I like the idea of taking a stand for ethical marketing. However, is a page explaining what your initiative is precisely about planned ? Some small bullet point list or whatever giving precises cues as to what users of this badge agree on doing. I think this could help bringing some more users in. I also think that the subject is very complex and that unhealthy practices vary from market to market. There are different levels of ethics to take in consideration : to me marketing directed towards children is a problem for example. Well I won't spam your blog with a lengthy pamphlet just yet. I'm really interested though ! Cheers, Nathan

about 11 years agoHi Nathan! Thank you for the comment and sharing your thoughts. You are right, this is a very complicated issue as there are a lot of shady, unethical practices...and they're always changing. As for right now, I do have a page dedicated to advocating against unethical marketing and where an indie can get the badge (https://www.indiegamegirl.com/indie-developer-for-ethical-marketing-badge/), but do not have a bulleted list that specifies activities. This is something I'd certainly like to add, among many other things, should the badge start gaining a bit more momentum. For now, I am advocating in a more general sense to raise awareness and will expand from there.

about 11 years agoThanks for the reply. I'll keep in check then, and as soon as I get back to making games, I'll be sure to participate ! (I'm currently learning marketing stuff, and quite certainly faster thanks to you !)
